Adress book. HOW TO OVERCOME the BAD HABITS in glass polishing wheels.

Up to now I have told you about the bad habits in peripherals polishing wheels, but what interests me is not to list the things that are not correct, but rather give you concrete solutions.

After all, analyzing a problem makes sense only if the goal is to achieve a positive result, in all other cases it is time lost.

Personally I am a person more oriented to look for solutions than to focus on problems.

Precisely for this reason I created a very short guide to give you all the useful indicators to understand if the polishing wheel you use is working well.

Here is the guide:

“The 5 THINGS TO CHECK

to see if a peripheral polishing wheel works well”

Does your polishing wheel working well?

CHECK IT with our system.

When you are using a polishing wheel, there are 5 important things to be tested to understand the quality of the wheel you are using.

1.   SPEED ‘WITH WHICH SHAPE GLASS

To speed with which the polishing wheel takes the shape, it means the speed that the polishing wheel takes to take the shape of the glass, it’s profile.

The shaping is a fundamental process because it is thanks to this that the polishing wheel can polish the entire shape of the glass also including the arris.

The greater the time that the polishing wheel employs to take the shape, the greater the wastage of the polishing wheel.

In fact, in the time that the polishing wheel is shaped in the meantime it is consumed and the machine loses productivity.

By the number of meters in which the polishing wheel is not shaped the glass removal is not polished because the threads do not adhere to the grindstone and therefore are not polished.

The part of the glass is polished, the thread not, your job is half done.

More polishing wheel takes time shaping is more difficult to find the balance that allows the taste of polish glass polishing wheel.

When the polishing wheel that uses is poor it takes many meters to implement the shaping process, the consequence is that you begin to detach small parts of the polishing wheel by creating micro cavities that prevent the glass from becoming glossy.

Sometimes I hear of requests for pre-shaped wheels.

Is it really useful to have pre-shaped wheels?

Does it make sense to keep 20 different types of pre-shaped wheels at home with all the glass thicknesses that are currently on the market?

Actually not, unless the goal is to have a warehouse full of wheels that at the end of the year is a useless cost, and then risk not having the wheel you need.

Try to think about it …

For example ,the wheel height 10mm is used to polish glass 8 mm high, but also glass 6 mm, 5 mm, 4 mm and 3 mm.

This means that if you use PRE-shaped polishing wheels you need 5 different types of polishing wheels, if instead you use the polishing wheels NOT pre-shaped you only need 1 for all these glass thickness.

It’s a 5 to 1 relationship.

However, a pre-shaped polishing wheel needs a certain amount of time to operate, it is not sufficient to install it on the machine so that it can work correctly right from the start.

The time to make them operational is still lost in both wheels with the difference that, in those to be shaped, if you use the procedure that we give you with the EcoWonderWheel you get in less time the operation and a better gloss, saving material.

A polishing wheel 100 mm diameter working on a 19 mm glass is deemed acceptable quality if full in shaping a maximum of 30 meters.

A polishing wheel diameter 100 mm working on a 19 mm glass is of high quality if it deems it outline in 10 meters, as is the case with EcoWonderWheels.

2. HOW MANY TIMES MUST PASS THE WHEEL POLISH TO MAKE A GOOD FINISH.

Another very simple factor to be checked, but of fundamental importance is the number of steps that the polishing wheel is on the glass to make it perfectly polished.

If the polishing wheel does not shine on the first pass then it is not a good polishing wheel.

If to polish glass must do many steps you’re just wasting time because glass does not become shiny anyway.

Polish glass is not like washing a saucepan encrusted the more steps you take, the more you lose time and consume the wheel.

If the polishing wheel that uses need to do two steps or even more, changing the wheel because the quality of what use is unsatisfactory.

You’re just wasting time going over the same spot, you better try a different wheel.

All customers who use the EcoWonderWheel declare that with one step only do you get a brillant polished edge.

3. NUMBER OF LINES ON THE EDGE

We start from a premise, it is impossible that the glass there is not even a line.

Any polishing wheel polishing leaves of the lines, the thing to check is:

  • How many lines are leaving?
  • How deep these lines?
  • Does the polishing wheel removed and polished or highlights the marks left by the diamond wheel?

If the edge of the glass has different lines and to the naked eye to see clearly, the polishing wheel you’re using does not remove enough, it is not quite abrasive.

The lines are a result of the passage of the diamond wheel, the task of polishing wheel is to eliminate as much as possible, if this is not done the polishing wheel is of poor quality.

You can tell if you are using the polishing wheel works very well if you look at the angle of the glass and is not opaque immediately after the corner the same, then after the bend.

The angle is a very difficult part to be polished, it is necessary that there are two basic elements:

  1. set machine with the right parameters: speed, feed pressure.
  2. good balance between the rigidity of the machine, spindle games and the wheel itself that must go to compensation.

The more the wheel is optimized in its process for every type of machine and processing, the lower the lines will be in the straight part and in the corners of the glass.

The polishing will be uniform, the number of lines will be reduced to such an extent that it seems to be done with cup wheels and not with peripheral wheels.

You can get this result, but you have to set up correctly both the machine and all the steps of the wheels, from the diamond to the sectors (or eventually until the resin) to that of the polishing, controlling the spindle well and how the glass is fixed .

EcoWonderWheel allows you to have:

  • ease of shaping
  • less polishing time
  • lower consumption
  • decrease of the lines left and decrease of their depth
  • more brilliance of the shiny thread
  • easy polishing of the corners.

4. NUMBER OF METERS THAT TRAVELS

The quality of the polishing wheel can also detect the number of linear meters you do with that wheel.

For example, if a diameter polishing wheel 100 in a 19 mm glass polish 300 meters it is clear that it is a very poor polishing wheel.

If a 100 diameter wheel in a 19 mm glass polish 700 meters it is a good quality polished.

If a 100 diameter wheel in a 19 mm glass polish 1.400 meters then it is the best wheel you can find on the market.

When I speak of the number of meters that the polishing wheel has to do I refer to the number of meters that the polishing wheel has to travel while maintaining a high level of polishing.

It is obvious that the more you settle for a rough glass more meters the hard wheel, but I refer to a wheel life with a very good quality of the polished edge.

Both aspects have to be there, you can’t give up any of these two elements.

EcoPolishingWheels diameter 100, allow you to travel 1,400 linear meters maintaining the highest possible quality of polished, using these parameters:

  • Rotation of 2.000 R.P.M. for  second
  • Pressure from 4% to 6%
  • Speed d ‘progress 000/2.500 meters for minute.

5. TRANSPARENCY OF THE SAME WHEEL

Do you want a secret that gives you a fast way to know  if the polishing wheel that you have in your hands is working well?

After the polishing has taken shaping stopped and watch the condition of the polishing wheel profile.

The more polished the polishing wheel profile, plus the glass will have a brilliant finish.

These control system is very simple but always very functional, is very practical and allows the operator, with a single glance, to see if the polishing wheel is working well and the parameters are correct.

Making a glossy sheen on the surface of the polishing wheel, it has the security that the elements that make up the polishing wheel are acting in the best conditions and that the parameters set on the machine are correct.

This is critical not to burn the polishing wheel and consequently the glass and create a higher quality polished.
